Event description

Please read the full event description as we are changing some policies!

The Southern California Chapter of Heroes On The Water would like to welcome you to our event! We look forward to getting to know you and sharing some memorable times out on the water. Please read the rules as they contain pertinent information and will assist us in helping you. Thank you!

Unfortunately we have been encountering a lot of late arrivals to our events recently. While we have done our best in the past to accommodate the late comers, we find it extremely unfair for those who arrived on time to have to wait longer to start their day on the water. Therefore in order to get everyone on the water in a safe, organized and timely manner, those who are not signed in and present for the safety briefing before the 8am launch may not be allowed on the water. There is now an improved waiting list system in place. In order to best serve our Heroes and because of high demand and limited resources, those who are late may lose their seats to waitlisted individuals. If you know in advance that you will be late or can't make it, please contact our Community Outreach Coordinator Shane Yellin at 617-256-4728 so he may clear a spot for someone else.

Volunteers, please arrive between 6 and 6:30am.

Heroes, please arrive no later than 7:15am.

HOW events are ALCOHOL FREE.

Vets/guests are to remain with their mentor for the duration of their time on the water.

You MUST wear your PFD the entire time you are out in a kayak. This is non negotiable for guests and volunteers alike. If we find that this rule is not being obeyed we will have no choice but to escort you off the water and bar you from participating in future events.

Food will be provided ,but you are welcome to bring your own snacks/food/drinks if you have special needs/preferences.

We have added a kid's ticket for children who will be on the water! Please do not sign up children under 6, or children who will stay on shore.

We strongly encourage family participation so we have also added a ticket for land based family so we can better coordinate how much food to bring.

First time mentors, please sign up for the first time mentor ticket. This will allow us to improve our planning for the event and better fill you in on what to expect and how to best support our Heroes.

*******PLEASE READ*******

HOW events are held on a first come first served basis. You are ONLY guaranteed a seat by selecting an available ticket. There are NO other methods of guaranteeing your ticket.

An event will not be cancelled due to rain in the forecast alone. If an event is going to be cancelled due to rain, YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED IN ADVANCE. We closely monitor the weather with YOUR SAFETY in mind.

If an unforseen circumstance arises and you will not be present, please UNREGISTER your seat. There are waitlisted "Heroes" who will attend . A waitlisted individual can not register with your verbal resignation, so we ask that you take the time to give back your ticket if you will not be there. This includes partial attendence for groups. If you have trouble unregistering a ticket, please contact Shane at 617-256-4728.

Those who have signed up for previous events and "no showed", are kindly asked to refrain from the next consecutive event.

Please bring your families! Our volunteer staff loves to see the family having a great time with one another. Family members planning on relaxing on shore instead of on the water may come bright and early with the participants or show up a little later in the morning if wanted.

Please remember that this event is meant to reach out and touch the lives of those who truly need the therapy that being on the water provides them. As a courtesy to other guests when registering, please select no more than 2 TICKETS per individual.

Tandem kayaks are for individuals that require assistance while paddling, those with small small children, or those with service animals. Please call our Community Outreach Coordinator Shane Yellin at 617-256-4728 before selecting a tandem kayak and we will work together to decide the best option for your individual situation.

Please know that we are all volunteers who truly love what we do with HOW and sharing our love for the sport of kayak fishing with you so PLEASE let us know if there is anything we can do to further help you enjoy your day with us. WE ARE HERE FOR YOU!

Following is a list of a few things that might make you a little more comfortable while hanging out with us.
