Henry Krokatsis: SaunaKabin at Jerwood Gallery, Hastings
Event Information
Description
Henry Krokatsis: SaunaKabin takes the form of a hand crafted architectural wooden structure. Crafted from burnt wood which is then carved by hand to give a roughhewn, exaggerated grain pattern. The structure is raised off the ground, an elevated illusion making the SaunaKabin both elegant and imposing in equal part. Its form draws from the grammar of the small, feature-rich buildings typically found in British parks and on promenades such as bandstands, seated shelters and ornate sheds.
Situated in the courtyard at Jerwood Gallery Hastings, this impressive structure also operates as a functioning communal sauna, encouraging the stripping bare and cleansing that are generally marked as private activity, to be brought into the public realm.
The SaunaKabin experience is yours to make of it what you want. A tranquil environment to think, talk to people and take in the surroundings and nature. Your session may cross over with another group. Come and be a part of this art sauna experience.
To participate in the SaunaKabin istallation at Jerwood Gallery each visitor must read and agree to the guidelines. Access to SuanaKabin will be via pre-booked slots.
