Event description

Description

Join Dr. Lasse Siurala, an experienced youth researcher and European expert in youth policy, to learn about Finnish approaches to youth work and youth development. Dr. Siurala, who has been the Director of Youth Services at the City of Helsinki and Director of Youth and Sports at the Council of Europe, will guide the audience through policies and practices that can have a profoundly positive impact on youth. Dr. Siurala will also share suggestions on how Vermont can take some of these lessons and put them into practice so all of our youth have what they need to succeed.

Dr. Siurala is currently an adjunct professor at Aalto University, Helsinki. His areas of expertise include: managing integrated youth policies/projects; youth participation; measuring the impact of youth work/youth development (including the potential of a narrative approach); the role of youth work in Europe as an educational field; youth work in Finland; digital youth work, and other new forms of youth work; and the role of history in understanding youth work/youth development.

Reception with food and cash bar at 6-7 p.m. with Dr. Siurala's lecture to follow.
