Fibershed is a non-profit educational and research organization that develops regenerative textile systems that are based on carbon farming, regional manufacturing, and public education.We envision the emergence of an international system of regional textile communities that enliven connection and ownership of ‘soil-to-soil’ textile processes. These diverse textile cultures are designed to build soil carbon stocks on the working landscapes on which they depend, while directly enhancing the strength of regional economies. Both fiber and food systems now face a drastically changing climate, and must utilize the best of time-honored knowledge and available science for their long-term ability to thrive.

The Fibershed Learning Center is excited to offer Seelie Studio's most in-depth urchin dye workshop to date!For the first time, Margaret Seelie, the founder of <a href="https://www.seeliestudio.com/" title="https://www.seeliestudio.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Seelie Studio</a>, will show you the entire urchin dye process, beginning with how we source the urchins, process their bodies, and create dye. You’ll have your own dye station where you’ll experience this unforgettable natural dye process and dye a Climate Beneficial Certified Merino Wool beanie sourced in California.For the first time, Seelie Studio will also have live urchins in class. You’ll learn about our spikey friends with PhD student and urchin extraordinaire Maddie Armstrong.Sea Urchins are incredible creatures. However, due to human impact, their populations have gone unchecked, and they have consumed 95% of the kelp forests in California. In efforts to help the kelp and honor these animals, we will create a beautifully dyed beanie using urchins from various kelp restoration projects along the West Coast. Join us at the intersection of environmental responsibility and artistic expression. She is the founder of Seelie Studio, a natural dye company that specializes in creating color from purple sea urchins (Strongylocentrotus purpuratus).
