Description

Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly and Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence invite you to attend Heller at 10: A Symposium on the Last—and Next—Decade of the Modern Second Amendment.

On June 26, 2008, in District of Columbia v. Heller, the Supreme Court upended centuries of settled law and invested the Second Amendment with a new meaning unrecognized since the Founding Era. In the 10 years since, judges, lawyers, and scholars have worked to build an entire field of constitutional doctrine from the ground up. Meanwhile, gun policy debates have taken center stage after a series of devastating mass shootings, and the reshaping of the federal judiciary under President Trump portends significant long-term shifts in Second Amendment law.

Heller’s 10th anniversary presents a unique opportunity to bring together the nation’s leading scholars, advocates, and litigators to critically assess the maturation of this rapidly changing area of law. Join us in San Francisco for a day of incisive discussions and lectures as we grapple with the past and future of the Second Amendment.
