Due to the large amount of requests, and overwhelming response to her 2016 perfeormance, the Irish American Heritage Museum is proud to bring Helena Bynre back to Albany!
Combining her love of Irish folklore and passion for the performing arts, Helena regularly performs as a seanchaí (storyteller). Helena interweaves tales of the Other World and the mysterious Fairy Folk with traditional Irish songs and wonderful insights into the Irish life of days gone by.
Akin to the traditional travelling seanchaí of times past, Helena is renowned for bringing her spellbinding stories and songs to diverse audiences in settings large and small. From young to old, Helena will bring your imagination into the fascinating world of the Banshee, the Pooka and the... supernatural.
Helena is a Resident Storyteller for Irish Folk Tours’ show ‘An Evening of Food, Folklore & Fairies’, ranked as TripAdvisor’s Number
One ‘Nightlife in Dublin’ event and nominated as CIE Tours ‘Best Evening Performance in Ireland’ 2016.
She has performed for companies such as Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Libraries, Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre, the National Leprechaun Museum, the Yarn Storytelling Festival in County Wicklow, and Bunratty Castle & Folk Park. Helena also produces her own storytelling events throughout Ireland.
“Not only was I entertained but I learned a lot as well. Helena Byrne, a charming, young Irish woman, looking every bit the fairy herself, all petite and delicate, lured us into a world of fairies and pookas and an Ireland of long ago, with her marvelously narrated stories and song. Oh her singing voice – I would have listened to her all night…” – Patricia O, London, UK (TripAdvisor 15/09/2015)
As a singer/songwriter Helena has performed extensively throughout Europe and the USA. She has been a support act for James Taylor, Katie Melua and Bob Geldof at the Source Festival, Kilkenny, was also a third place winner in the 2fm Young Songwriter’s Contest with her song ‘Happenin’ and was shortlisted in the Pan Celtic National Song Contest 2015 with her song ‘Is Tú Grá’. She has performed as a session vocalist for both Rónán and Colm Ó Snodaigh, founding members of Irish group, Kila, most recently collaborating with Rónán, who features on her debut album ‘Ceol’, and with Colm, who features on her latest album ‘Scéal’.
“If you don’t get goosebumps when you hear her beautiful voice then you may need to consult a medical professional because chances are, you’re dead inside.” – Travel Ireland Magazine, March 2016.
