About this event

Deathcare Community Care looks like this. Making space for us, those who work with, around, and in deathcare. We can talk about deathcare or the sweet cookie recipe that someone discovered.

The heaviness of death care work can be a lot to process. Together Kaipuokaualoku & A Sacred Passing are hosting a space for death workers which welcomes you for small group listening, witnessing and if requested, conversation. This is open to medical and non-medical professionals, community workers, and volunteers.

This is a facilitated peer support group for participants to talk. This is not a therapeutic group- I am a therapist who is ONLY licensed to practice in Hawai'i and can not offer therapy anywhere else.

This is not a safe space for racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, misogyny, or any other forms of oppression. We will not cater to anyone who expresses any of the above ideology or offer space to let people play 'devil's advocate.'

About the facilitator

Leilani Maxera (she/they) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, therapist, grief & death worker, and group facilitator. Leilani has worked and volunteered in syringe exchange & overdose prevention for 14 years before starting their own private therapy practice, Kaipuokaualoku, LLC. Leilani is an abolitionist, a harm-reduction advocate, and a lover of spreading carework over capitalism.
