Event description

Description

Join us on Monday, October 14th for a presentation by Heather "Anish" Anderson -- Endurance Adventurer, Trail Runner, Thru-Hiker, Author, Speaker -- and recently named National Geographic’s Adventurer Of The Year.

“The trail often has a way of answering the questions we most need answered even if you are afraid to ask.”

Heather has hiked nearly 30,000 miles since 2003 including 13 thru-hikes. In November of 2018 Heather became the first woman complete the “Triple Crown” in a calendar year. In the process, she set a female Fastest Known Time (FKT) for the route - hiking it all in just 251 days, 20 hours, and 10 minutes. She is also the only female “TRIPLE Triple Crowner”, having completed the entire route three times.

What drives her passion for life on far-flung trails? That is something she asked herself in the days, weeks, and months she walked alone in wild places, facing her fears, loneliness, and physical challenges. In her own words:

“6 years ago I was battling depression.
The life I’d built had crumbled.
I was injured and couldn’t run or hike, the only things that were keeping me alive.
I knew that I was on the cusp of transformation. But it was going to require me to do something unimaginable, and given my current state, stupid.
Yet I could not back away from the deep instinctual urge to answer a call…
A call to return to the mountains of the Pacific Crest: To accept their challenge to give up my notion of what I was capable of and immerse myself completely in their lessons.
In the process, I discovered myself for the first time…”

Heather will be sharing slides and stories as well as answering questions. She will also be selling Anish Hikes items and books after the program.Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30; the program will start promptly at 7 p.m.

Heather's appearances in the Pacific Northwest have been selling out in advance, so we recommend purchasing your tickets ahead of time. Tickets, IF STILL AVAILABLE, will be $15 at the door.

Heather has been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post, NPR, and Backpacker Magazine.

This event is co-presentecd by the Foothills branch of The Mountaineers and by the City Of Bellevue Department of Parks & Community Services.
