About this Event

Register for our 2021 Volunteer Training dates!

We are keeping class sizes very small, but offering multiple days and times to try to accommodate training as many new volunteers as possible. Training will take two hours and will take place mostly outdoors in our barn and covered arena, so please be prepared to get dirty.

Changes for Previous Volunteers!

Have you volunteered with Hearts & Hooves in the past (prior to 2019, but not since)? We have had many updates to our policies, procedures, volunteer levels, and descriptions, which means that all previous H&H volunteers must go through training again before we can put you on the class schedule. You will complete your 2021 paperwork while onsite for training. Please choose the "returning volunteer" ticket type.

Annual Training:

ALL volunteers must go through annual training and complete updated paperwork. Please register for our training dates in January to fulfill your annual training requirement.

New Volunteers:

New volunteers are definitely needed and welcome! You'll see two different "ticket" registration types for each class time. Please be sure to choose "new" volunteer when registering.

Training will take place primarily in the barn and outdoor covered arena, so be sure to wear weather appropriate clothing, along with clothes and closed-toed shoes that can get dirty. It is a rigorous two hours!

Leading and sidewalking with lessons in the arena is a rigorous activity. We have new sand in the arena, so it's a bit like walking quickly on the beach for an hour! We have volunteers from 14 to 65+ that assist in lessons, but a moderate level of fitness is required. Grooming the horses and being a horse buddy is less physically taxing.

Please arrive 15 minutes before class begins to allow enough time to complete your paperwork. The required paperwork can be downloaded and completed prior to arrival from our website on the Volunteer page.

Are there minimum age requirements?

Yes, new volunteers who will work with horses need to be 16 years old, unless they can demonstrate during training they have a high level of experience and confidence with the horse, which is evaluated on a case by case basis. Our insurance requires volunteers to be 14 years old just to work on the property without their parent or guardian with them at all times. From experience, we find that volunteers that work with horses do best when they are at least 16. But, if you have lots of horse experience, you have a good chance of being approved!

How do I find you?

Smart phone GPS tends to stop a house or two before our private driveway. We are not located at the big house with the stone horse sign, instead our driveway is another 2 houses down the road. Look for the set of 3 mailboxes with our large Hearts & Hooves sign behind it to turn onto the small private driveway.

What are my parking options?

You will turn into Hearts & Hooves at the small private driveway between the white house and set of 3 mailboxes. Our Hearts & Hooves sign is behind the mailboxes. Follow the private driveway past 2 houses and then until you see cars parked along the paddock fence. Park in that area between the tree and the fenceline. The office is across the driveway from the parking area.

What can I bring into the training?

You are welcome to bring a water bottle or other beverage container with you. Please leave your personal belongings, including purse and cell phones, in your car. We will have a place in the office for your car keys. There is no smoking or vaping allowed anywhere on the property. No firearms are allowed. Be sure to leave all pets at home.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

You may contact Michele Easter, Executive Director, by email at or by phone at (501)834-8509.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, you do not.

Can I update my registration information?

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Yes. You can change your registration online to another open date, or transfer it to another person online. If you have troubles completing the change online, just email Michele Easter at or call (501)834-8509.
