Come in and enjoy a day long meditation with NUI Galway School of Education.

Full day or half day of relaxation techniques and meditative practice from 9 am until 4 pm or 1.15pm - 4pm. Free for everybody.

Whether you are new to meditation or someone who has practiced meditation for some time this day caters to all needs. Why not treat yourself to a day of inner relaxation, peace, calm and tranquility?

All are welcome! Both the general public and students/staff of NUI Galway! We are looking forward to meeting you and spending a lovely sunny day at the Aula Maxima, Quadrangle, NUI Galway.

What is the exact itinerary for the full day?

9am Meet and greet at Aula Maxima, Quadrangle, NUIG. Confirm registration with administrators at entrance to Aula. Collect name tag. Come in, smile at the other new strangers embracing meditation for the first time, maybe even have a chat, break the ice, Choose your seat, take off your shoes if you like, get cosy, wrap yourself up in a blanket.

9.30am Introduction to Aula Maxima, significance of surroundings we are embracing. Listen and take note of emergency exits, restroom locations and brief safety plan for day. Put itinerary slip of paper into your pocket for day that is left on your chair for you with map incase you decide to go for a wander.

9.45am - 10.45am Relaxation and meditation with Katherine

10.45am - 11.15am small break

11.15am -11.45am Lecture on The Power of Meditation

11.45am -12.45 Lunch

12.45 -1.25pm Walk - Feel free to go for a walk around NUIG campus down by the River Corrib. Take time to be at one with yourself, slow down and notice the wonders of nature that are around you. Time to hear yourself or enjoy a deep meaningful conversation with a new acquaintance. Whatever you want this time to be, enjoy it! There is a museum or two to discover on campus also if you can spot them! Pop to restroom in corners of Quadrangle before returning for afternoon session.

1.30pm - 1.45pm Introduction to the concept of transmission in Heartfulness meditation - short presentation.

1.45pm - 2.30pm Deep meditation with Katherine

2.30pm - 3.10pm Question and Answers session with a panel of five long term meditators. Floor will be open to students and public and panel will give their best attempt to try and shed light on any questions coming up for you.

3.15pm - 4pm Notebooks with how to use them explained. Practice final cleaning exercise together for 20 minutes (Don't worry, we will not make you clean the room, this is a different exercise entirely). App info distributed and explained along with websites for further info. Stretch, relax, feel, chat and depart NUIG.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Minimum age for entry to event is 18 years of age.

What can I bring into the event?

Bring yourself

Bring a blanket, cushion and slippers for yourself if you enjoy your own creature comforts while meditating. After lunch you might fancy a walk around the campus and down by the Corrib. Galway is usually sunny in April so sunglasses and/or umbrella might be handy. None of these are necessary.

Are the places to eat on campus?

Moffetts Restaurant, Orbsen Building.

An Bialann, ground floor under yellow thing and library. We will be on hand to show you the way.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

1.A daily rate pay and display parking is available at Galway Cathedral, Nuns Island. This is a 3 minute walk from the Aula Maxima, Quadrangle. It is recommended to arrive early between 7.50am and 8.10am to make sure you get a parking spot and aren't rushing through the morning traffic in the city.

2.The Park and Ride car park is located in Dangan (30 minute walk to Quadrangle but bus available too if you don't want to walk) (to the northwest of Corrib Village). It can be accessed via the entrance to Corrib Village, off the Upper Newcastle Road. Opening hours are from 0600 to 2300 on weekdays only. The spaces in the Park and Ride are for staff and students only, but the Pay and Display/Pay by Phone spaces are available for visitors if they purchase a ticket from the nearby machine or online via the app (apcoaconnect). To exit the carpark, drive up to the exit barrier which will automatically rise.

Meter Rates:
€1.50 - 1 hour (except Park & Ride and Insight/IDA Business Park meter which is €1.00 per hour)
€10 - Full Day (except Park & Ride and Insight/IDA Business Park meter which is €6.00 per day)
Pay By Phone - Campus Codes and Rates:
0149 South Campus:
€1.50 per hour or multiples thereof, capped at €10.00 per day rate excluding admin charges for service
0192 North Campus:
€1.00 per hour or multiples thereof, capped at €6.00 per day rate excluding admin charges for service
0537 Áras Moyola:
€1.50 per hour but capped at 1 hour as maximum stay applies, excluding admin charges for service
2412 Kingfisher:
€1.50 per hour but capped at 2 hours as maximum stay applies, excluding admin charges for service

If you use Pay-and-Display and purchase a ticket at the machine you must display the ticket. If you use Pay by Phone, it is virtual.

Pay and Display times: 0830 - 1730, Monday - Friday. The Parking Management Appeals Group reserves the right to review and implement changes to these operating hours and charges.

Note: Cash, cheques, credit/laser/charge card only for clamp release fee. No change given. Normal clamping operating hours: 0830 - 1730 Monday – Friday. No service for release after 2300.

4. If you know you are arriving late it is probably best to park in town at the Corrib Shopping Centre. It is a ten minute walk to the Quadrangle.
