Event description

Description

The time is right to bring back Floyd Abrams, one of the nation’s leading legal authorities on the First Amendment and U.S. Constitutional law, to be our guest speaker for our first event of the new Silurian season. Mr. Abrams, a major force in the legal defense of the media, spoke to us some 10 years ago. His clients have included The New York Times, which he defended in 1971 when it published the Pentagon Papers; The McGraw-Hill Companies; Standard & Poor’s Financial Services LLC; and ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, Time Magazine, Business Week, The Nation, Reader's Digest and Hearst.
Shortly after last year’s election, Mr. Abrams said that Donald Trump “may be the greatest threat to the First Amendment since the passage of the Sedition Act of 1798.” Why is he a threat? Come to our luncheon on Sept. 20, at noon, and find out.

Remember: We are now using Eventbrite to handle our luncheon reservations. David A. Andelman, our 1st vice-president, is no longer accepting email reservations. There is no charge to use this service, unless you choose to pay in advance for your ticket with a credit card.
You can still reserve by calling the Silurians' reservation line at 212-532-0887. Lunch prices are $50 for members, $55 for guests, payable at the door by cash (exact change, please), check or credit card. And if you're bringing a guest, make sure to give us your guest's name. Each member can bring one guest, with additional guests put on a waiting list. We will try to seat everyone.

Also, if you have not yet mailed in your yearly dues, of $60, please send to:
