Hear Now! Soundscapes DC
Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM (EST)
With Marika Partridge and the DC Listening Lounge Collective
Marika Partridge, one of the founders of Hear Now, created a twenty-minute soundscape of DC as a commission for Simon Elmes of BBC Radio, where it was broadcast in March 2013 in a series called "Twenty Minutes: Sounds of the City," the intermission segment in live concerts. Marika will present her piece and talk about the collaboration. How do you make a program like this for a foreign audience and a foreign broadcaster? How does recording and editing a piece about Washington for listeners abroad different from creating something for a local audience? The DC Listening Lounge will present their own version of a DC soundscape in response. What different worlds will we hear?
“Hear Now,” an informal group of local producers and radiophiles, continues their series of listening events designed to appeal to all those passionate about radio and culture. The series presents cutting-edge listening experiences and discussions as well as a chance to hear what’s going on in public radio across the country and around the world.
