Hear Now! Designing Sonic Space
Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM (EDT)
Concepts for Live Performance with Sound Designer Nicole Martin
Nikki Martin, the West Coast sound designer known locally for her work with Rorschach Theatre, the Capital Fringe Festival and Wit's End Puppets, talks about using field recordings to create sound design concepts that play with an audience's sense of "reality," using existing spacial acoustics to enhance the artistry of a design, and exploring the basics of psychoacoustics to enhance the experience of a play.
Nikki is a Helen Hayes-nominated sound designer who works with a wide variety of artists across the country devising new works and making noise. She loves found spaces, mixed genres and the circus. She has been a performer, stage manager and sound engineer with groups such as Bread & Puppet Theater, Puppet Underground, Beats Antique, the American Burlesque and Sideshow Festival, the Smithsonian and the National Council for the Traditional Arts.
“Hear Now,” an informal group of local producers and radiophiles, continues their series of listening events designed to appeal to all those passionate about radio and culture. The series presents cutting-edge listening experiences and discussions as well as a chance to hear what’s going on in public radio across the country and around the world.
