Description

Healthy Rental Housing: Current Risks and Opportunities for New Partnerships

The June Shared Prosperity Roundtable, Healthy Rental Housing: Current Risks and Opportunities for New Partnerships, will bring together service providers and professionals from the healthcare and affordable housing communities to discuss the housing problems encountered in privately owned, unsubsidized rental units and their impact on chronic health conditions. The roundtable will also highlight initiatives currently underway in Philadelphia that may offer models for intervention or new opportunities for leveraging resources to improve habitability and basic quality in the rental housing stock available in low-income neighborhoods.

Speakers and presenters include:

  • Palak Raval-Nelson, Director, Environmental Health Services, Philadelphia Department of Public Health
  • Rasheedah Phillips, Managing Director, Community Legal Services
  • Liz Robinson, Executive Director, Energy Coordinating Agency
  • Dr. Tyra Bryant-Stephens, Medical Director, Community Asthma Prevention Program, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
  • Witnesses to Hunger, Center for Hunger Free Communities, Drexel University

The roundtable event is being held in June to promote the second annual Healthy Homes month, designated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In addition to featured speakers and panelists, resource tables and displays will be available to provide more information on local programs and services.
