HEALTHY HUMAN CONNECTION As Key to Preventing and Healing Addiction
CONNECTION IS KEY: Understanding the Power of Healthy Human Connection as Key in the Prevention and Healing of Sexual Addiction (a conference with four segments presented on two consecutive Fridays)
Loving relationships in the home are the foundation of a healthy sense of self and are the most important protective factor against any kind of addiction. It is important to start early to protect and prepare young children for what they will be exposed to through the internet. The reality is that exposure to pornography and other damaging images are not a matter of IF, but a matter of WHEN. Children can be taught about the impact pornography has on the brain and can be given tools to help avoid re-exposure and addiction. This conference will help us learn about healthy family realtionships, inform on techniques to teach children how to avoid and deflect lasting effects of exposure to pornography, and show us how to create a culture in church that helps no one feel alone in their struggles.
The conference will be led by Valerie Hamaker, M.A., LPC. Valerie has a Master's Degree in counseling from MidAmerica Nazarene University with special training in marriage and family counseling, and is a certified sexual addictions treatment provider. She has clinical experience working with high risk teens, and is currently engaged in research on the changing nature of intimacy due to the heavy influence of technology and social media (text from http://attachmentcounselor.com/valerie-hamaker/).
This event is free and open to any adult who utilizes technology and interacts with children. Both Fridays have different content, so try to attend both. Eventbrite doesn't provide a way to register for both dates at one time, so register for each separately. Sorry for this inconvenience.
