Do you want to find ways to help deal with symptoms you may have like pain, fatigue, everyday depression?
Do you feel limited in your activities because of your health?
Then, sign up for Healthier Living, a free 6 week (2.5 hrs per week) workshop, developed by Stanford School of Medicine, to teach adults how to self manage their chronic conditions. It is non medical in nature and focuses on the problems participants face because of their chronic condition. Setting is a small interactive participatory group of 10-12 facilitated by 2 trained lay leaders.
The workshop is designed to leave students with many new ways to self-manage their condition and situation after the workshop ends, and supports them in developing new habits including setting goals, solving problems, developing a partner relationship with their doctors, and seeking out health information.
Week 1- Introduction, goal setting, chronic vs acute condition, mind-body techniques, distraction.
Week 2- Problem solving, dealing with difficult emotions, importance of physical activity, preventing falls, goal setting
Week 3- Making decisions, pain/fatigue management , endurance exercise, relaxation body scan, goal setting
Week 4- Better breathing, healthy eating, communication skills, problem solving, goal setting
Week 5- Healthy food choices, medication usage, informed treatment decisions, depression management,positive thinking, goal setting
Week 6-Problem solving, working with health care team, weight management, looking back/planning for Future
