Note: Non-members are eligible to apply the $125 attendance cost towards membership if the attendee joins HHN within 30 days of attending the workshop.

ABOUT: DAN BILLINGSLEY

Daniel Billingsley is the Vice President of External Affairs for the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits. With nearly 20 years of experience in nonprofit management, fundraising and communications, Billingsley believes that nonprofits need a carefully honed tool box of skills to effectively deliver services in the community. With particular expertise in strategic planning, marketing and resource development, Billingsley considers missions most effective when the people carrying out those missions have the best training and skill sets available.

At the Center, Billingsley also teaches various workshops, including the Standards for Excellence series, consults with various nonprofits and is a frequent guest speaker and lecturer at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma State University – Tulsa, and other entities. He is an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and chairs the governance committee of the board for the AFP Oklahoma chapter.

Prior to his work at the Center, Billingsley had a long career in arts administration and human services. He has been an executive director for the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, a professional chorus of 24 singers. He has also been Director of Communications at Thresholds in Chicago, Illinois’ largest and oldest provider of services to persons living with severe and persistent mental illness. There he oversaw both communications and public policy to ensure that those with mental illness had a voice and advocate at the local, state and federal levels. While at Thresholds, Billingsley also helped the agency secure a Gold Award with the American Psychiatric Association, awards with the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the National Alliance for Mental Illness, the National Council on Behavioral Healthcare and the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association.

A classically trained singer and musician, he has also been a featured soloist in choral works, operas and oratorios, as well as acting as a clinician and adjudicator for various arts events around the country. Daniel holds master’s degrees in journalism and strategic communication as well as music performance from the University of Kansas.


ABOUT: DR. DEBORAH G. ESTES

Dr. Estes’ primary interest is in the area of brain research, and how this knowledge can directly impact our professional and personal lives. Powerful tools to engage the brain, presentation skills, experiential learning and learning strategies are Dr. Estes’ key tools when consulting or training groups, businesses and non-profit organizations with professional development training workshops, seminars and in her keynote speaking engagements.

In 1995, Dr Estes established Estes Group, Inc., which specialized in training to both the business, corporate and educational sectors. She consults for the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Learning Forward and the Bureau of Education and Research and is a member of several local boards. Dr. Estes presents throughout the United States and Canada and has been a distinguished speaker in Yauyos, Peru and for the Department of Defense in Seoul, Korea. She is a recognized conference keynote speaker and presenter, and often speaks to Administrative Leadership Teams and conducts Board of Trustees training.

Dr. Estes graduated from Texas A & M University – Commerce with a doctorate in Educational Administration and is a former high school teacher, middle school principal, and Curriculum/Public Relations Director. She also held the position of Senior Consultant for Region 10 Educational Service Center, where her responsibilities included directing, coordinating and serving as a lead trainer of a cooperative service which provided administrative training to more than 1600 superintendents, principals, central office staff and trustees of eighty-two school districts.

Working with people of all orientations—educators, parents, community members, non-profit organizations, business leaders, corporate executives, project managers, team leaders and conference participants, Dr. Estes is known for her warmth, humor and ability to involve everyone in the joy of learning.
