Event description

Description

October 17, 2018 from 9am - 4pm ET
October 18, 2018 from 9am - 4pm ET (tentative)

Firearm injuries and death are a serious public health concern in the U.S. Firearm-related injuries account for tens of thousands of premature deaths of adults and children each year and significantly increase the burden of injury and disability. Firearm injuries are also costly to the healthcare system, accounting for nearly $3 billion in emergency department and inpatient care each year.

Join the Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice in DC on October 17 and 18 for a workshop exploring health systems’ role in preventing firearm injuries and death. Presentations and discussions will feature evidence and best practices by health systems, hospital systems, and health care professionals. They will also examine opportunities for health systems to improve intervention efficacy by working with communities. Speakers will focus on primary prevention and will frame the scope of future research on health systems interventions.
