Bethel World Outreach Church and the African American Health Program present a FREE health promotion event for church leaders and members in Montgomery County. Learn how to improve your health and promote health among your congregation. Together we can make sure that the community's health needs are being met by focusing on people who need the most help improving their health.
According to recent statistics from Healthy Montgomery 2016: Community Health Needs Assessment Summary:
Blacks/African Americans are more than twice as likely to die from heart disease than Hispanic people living in Montgomery County.
Between 2010 and 2013, ER visits related to diabetes have increased 20%. For children, ER visits related to diabetes have gone up even more--28%.
While family history can impact cancer risk, most cancers are related to how we live. Smoking, poor diet, obesity, and lack of physical activity may play a role in 2 out of 3 deaths from cancer.
Black/African American women are more likely to die from breast cancer than white women and other groups.
Infant deaths are still higher for Black/African Americans than whites and Hispanics.
Prevention is the key to good health! A healthy, delicious breakfast will be served. Event will also feature free health screenings.
The African American Health Program (AAHP) is committed to eliminating health disparities and improving the number and quality of years of life for African-Americans and people of African descent in Montgomery County, Maryland. Bethel World Outreach Ministries was founded in August 1990, in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area with Dr. and Mrs. Darlingston G. Johnson, as its founding pastors. The first service was held at Blackburn Center, Howard University with 17 persons present. A few months later, the church relocated to the Armory Place in Silver Spring, Maryland, and then in 1992, it moved to 8242-52 Georgia Avenue.
