Event Details

Purpose: To encourage Georgia high school and middle school students to work as a team to design an innovative mobile application or mobile optimized website that promotes the prevention and cessation of youth tobacco usage to encourage life long wellness.

Eligibility: This is a team event for middle and high school students. Teams consist of 2-4 students. Schools offering cluster/pathways in Health Sciences, Business Management and IT and other STEM related programs are strongly encouraged to participate. Many of these schools participate through student organizations such as FBLA, HOSA, and TSA.

Project description: Students should evaluate the current trends in the use of mobile applications and study how these trends will impact our healthcare delivery system. Health related areas to be addressed in the application may include tobacco usage trends, risks, prevention, and cessation programs.

Entries are due by 12 p.m. on October 10, 2014.

• Finalist teams will present their application at the Health IT Leadership Summit on November 20, 2014 at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel.

• Cash prizes will be awarded to the schools of the finalist teams.

• A grand prize winner will receive an additional cash award for their school.
