Health Equity Learning Series:

Community Discussion on Economic Inequalities

Dinner 5:30 PM | Video & Discussion 6:00 - 8:00 PM

“Dog Whistle Politics: Race, Politics, and Economic Inequality for All”

Haney López discusses his most recent work, Dog Whistle Politics: How Coded Racial Appeals Have Reinvented Racism and Wrecked the Middle Class, which exposes how over the last half century politicians have exploited racial pandering to build resentment toward government that in turn leads many voters to support policies that favor the very wealthiest while hurting everyone else. His talk centers on how racial fear becomes a tool to influence elections. This in turn has a severe impact on health equity for people of color and low-income communities.
