Event description

Description

You are invited to join us for the third Health and Happiness retreat at Camp Samac in Oshawa, Ontario on October 4th to October 7th, 2019. The retreat will be led by Brother Phap Lu. Thay Phap Lu, a senior Plum Village monk with medical background in France, has been living and practising with Thay Thich Nhat Hanh since early years of Plum Village and shared his practice in numerous Health Retreats. This Health and Happiness Retreat incorporates Plum Village practices of the Art of Mindful Living with an holistic approach to physical health. This is a unique opportunity for us to engage in body and mind practices to revitalize ourselves and access the inexhaustible life energies that are around us.

During these 4 days/nights, we will enjoy daily sitting meditation sessions, total relaxation, walking meditation, Yoga and Qigong, and a workshop on health. We will follow a cleansing diet that strengthens our immune capacity, maintains a light body and clear mind, and helps us regain new energy from our body reserves. We will draw on the Buddha’s wisdom of taking one meal a day. Lunch will be our main meal. Oatmeal will be provided for breakfast, a piece of fruit for our walk, and a hearty vegetable soup for the evening to help us sleep well. All meals are strictly vegan. There will be no eggs or dairy products.

We understand that taking one meal a day is not common practice for busy people in society, so for a smooth transition to this new routine, there are some suggestions. For about a week before the retreat, reduce the portion of regular meals, reduce consumption of meat, eggs, dairy products, and products containing toxins (e.g. alcohol, cigarettes, coffee).

As with all traditional Plum Village retreats, the themes we embrace are:

  • Re-gaining and restoring inner peace
  • Watering the seeds of joy and happiness
  • Taking care of the inner child within oneself
  • Cultivating compassion on a daily basis

During this retreat we will enjoy being alive in the present moment through mindful practices of breathing, sitting, walking and eating. We will come together as a community in peaceful solidarity with our monastic and lay brothers and sisters guiding us in mindful living.

Sitting meditation cushions will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own.

Accommodations will be simple bunk style dormitories with shared washrooms. Healthy, vegetarian meals will be provided. For more information about Camp Samac, please visit the website: http://wpc.scouts.ca/ca/samac-maps-and-directions.

We look forward to your presence at Camp Samac.

A lotus for you,

The retreat organizers
