Description

Just Beginnings Fellows Ignacio Rivera and Amita Swadhin are organizing a one-day conference for queer, transgender, non-binary, intersex and/or gender non-conforming Black and indigenous folks and other people of color who survived childhood rape and/or sexual assault.

This conference is part of The Guatu Tour, in collaboration with Mirror Memoirs.

The agenda is as follows:

Sunday, October 21st

9AM-10AM Breakfast & Registration

10AM-10:30AM Welcome, Grounding, Guidelines

10:30AM-1:30PM Workshop #1: Storytelling & Body Movement to Release Trauma

1:30PM-2:30PM Lunch

2:30PM-5:30PM Workshop #2: Sexy Survivor: Claiming Your Pleasure As Power

5:30PM-6:00PM Closing Circle

In addition to the main workshops, we will feature local healers, including trauma-informed personal trainer and competitive boxer Patricio Manuel, tarot reader and cultural worker Shruti Purkayastha, community acupuncturist Nirva Parikh, and local herbalists, body workers, and somatic therapists who are members of the QTIPOC community (final list to be announced).

We can accommodate up to 150 survivors at this powerful healing convergence.

Breakfast and lunch are included in your registration fee. Free parking is available in the CARECEN lot FOR THE FIRST 28 REGISTRANTS. After those spots are filled, participants will have to rely on street parking, Lyft and public transportation.

We are asking people to donate a registration fee according to the following scale:

* Unemployed folks: $1 (our Eventbrite account will not allow $0 ticket registration)

* Folks earning $25,000 or less per year: $5

* Folks earning $25,001 to $59,999 per year: $15

* Folks earning $60,000 or more per year: $30

People who can afford to give more are highly encouraged to do so. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. All funds raised go toward the following expenses: venue rental, breakfast, lunch, teaching materials, printed handouts, and stipends for all local healers. Ignacio and Amita's time is covered by the JBC fellowship.

Advance registration is accepted through September 30.
