Description

Workshop Details:

Tamaya Garcia grew up in her Nana’s kitchen watching her grill chiles on the comal, boil her magical frijoles de olla and use her molcajete to make delicious salsas. Being the eldest girl in the family, she put Tamaya to work in the kitchen as soon as she realized she knew how to properly crack an egg. Tamaya believes healing plant based cooking is an indigenous practice that is the basis for Latin@ cooking and helps to reeducate her people to help them remember the nourishment of healing foods.

This workshop is part of a series that is dedicated to empowering badass organizers and activists of color to prioritize self-care and self-healing. Many of us work so hard to better our communities, our people's lives, and our world, and yet our health is the first thing to be neglected.

The health of our movement work is inextricably intertwined with the health of our physical bodies. How can we be effective leaders if we are neglecting our own well being on such a fundamental level?

Learn sustainable healing practices and self-care strategies that are relevant and indigenous to the diverse communities we come from. The workshops will be led by expert healers in our community who are also activists and organizers. You will leave with recipes, tools, and strategies for taking better care of yourselves. We will connect you with resources that will help self-care become a sustainable ritual practice.

Come to one or all workshops, it’s FREE for organizers and activists of color. Space is limited so register now.

If the workshop is sold out, please email us to get on the waiting list! holler@oaklandisjuiced.com.

If you are a non-POC ally and interested in supporting this workshop series, please email holler@oaklandisjuiced.com.

Super Juiced was born out of a need for creating nourishing food options in Oakland that help our people thrive. We created this workshop series to connect our amazing WOC healer network with activists and organizers of color who struggle to take care of themselves while they fiercely fight to better our communities.

Much gratitude to the Akonadi Foundation for making this series possible through the #solovecanwin grant. Thanks to our partner Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice.
