Description

Heads Up: The informal space for people passionate about social change: whether you’re a leader, part of a movement or just starting out.

Leanne wood is no stranger to controversy. Since her election to the National Assembly in 2003, Leanne’s style and the causes she champions has made her one of the highest profile politicians in Wales.

As Plaid Cymru leader, she famously floored Nigel Farage on live TV during the 2015 general election over his attacks on people born outside the UK accessing NHS HIV medicine. As a backbencher, Wood led the exposure of excesses at the Wales Audit Office, uncovering financial irregularities that led to the resignation of the then Auditor General Jeremy Colman.

In a 2012 interview with the Western Mail, the self-described socialist, environmentalist and republican described how Marge Piercy’s 1976 book on feminism Woman on the Edge of Time and the 1984 miners’ strike were pivotal moments in her political development.

Our Heads Up conversation with Leanne will focus on what shaped her as a woman, and a

leader. We’ll talk about how she has remained personally resilient in the face of challenge; how she’s remained authentic under intense public scrutiny, and what her advice would be to others who want to change the world.
