Headingley LitFest – Ruth Robbins, Trial of Maud Allen (Salome)


In this public talk, Professor Ruth Robbins (Leeds Beckett) retells the story of the 1918 Maud Allen case, a Canadian dancer who sued a Tory MP (Noel Pemberton-Billing) for libel. Robbins will trace its implications – some of which continue to have resonance even now.
