Description
He Pūko‘a Kani ‘Āina - Biocultural Conservation Stories from Pacific Island Youth
The 2016 IUCN World Conservation Congress Forum is held every four years and is one of the most important global conservation conferences worldwide. The Hawai‘i Conservation Alliance is hosting a special event called He Pūko‘a Kani ‘Āina on August 30, 2016. HPK‘Ā is a creative speaking experience featuring youth and cultural performances, a locally sourced food tasting reception featuring celebrity Chef Ed Kenney of Mahina & Suns, Chef Mark Noguchi of MISSION Social Hall & Café, Chef Anicea Campanale of The Nook Neighborhood Bistro, and Chef David Passanisi of EAT Honolulu. This inspirational evening will also include live performances by Kekoa Kane of Mana Mele Collective and Paula Fuga!
He Pūko‘a Kani ‘Āina, is an ‘ōlelo no‘eau that means a coral reef that becomes an island over time, and can also signify someone growing in a positive way until they become established. Join us to connect youth voices from across the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands through storytelling, spoken word poetry, and songs that reflect unique experiences in biocultural conservation.
