Event description

Description

As the drama continues to unfold over both federal and state budget processes, the implications for homeless care providers and youth experiencing homelessness could be dire. To keep informed and a step ahead, the Homeless Children's Education Fund is once again pleased to invite you to participate in our annual Government Briefing on September 8, 2017.

You will not want to miss this year’s briefing, which will take place at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. Coffee and refreshments will be provided at 8:00 a.m. and the briefing will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m.

The briefing will focus on several new and important federal, state, and county developments impacting youth in foster care and/or experiencing homelessness. Barbara Duffield of SchoolHouse Connection will present on federal issues, including the impact of potential cuts to education in the 2018 budget. Former State Representative Ron Cowell will provide an in depth analysis of how these federal cuts will affect our commonwealth. Finally, Abby Horn and Jane Downing will report on the Allegheny Homeless Advisory Board Strategic Plan.

In addition, you will receive an update about the exciting developments surrounding the BigBurgh.com app, which has seen extensive usage since its inception. There will also be a report on the 412 Youth Zone, a drop-in center designed for youth living on the street.
