Description

The 2020 HCBA 5K Pro Bono River Run is a family friendly event that supports pro bono legal services in Hillsborough County. Registration is open to all individuals who work in the local legal community. The run will start at 10:30 a.m. and will again be located entirely along the Riverwalk from Water Works Park down to USF Park and back. This will reduce any conflict with ongoing development and traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian, occurring along the original run route. The run will be chip-timed for those who are competitive at heart!

Individuals can support the Run and pro bono service in 3 ways: 1) As part of registration, a runner will pledge their own pro bono hours; 2) A runner can actively solicit and encourage others to support their participation in the Run by pledging pro bono hours; and 3) A non-runner can support the Run by pledging individual pro bono hours. The links below will direct you to the registration site applicable to each of the above-choices.

As a result of the Pro Bono Run held last year, participants pledged a total of 2,137 pro bono hours. Since the inception of the Run, there have been almost 18,000 hours of pro bono service that have been performed assisting the indigent in our community. No other race gives you the personal satisfaction that comes from helping others who need your time, talent, and ability to resolve legal matters that are dramatically affecting their daily lives. This year, we are seeking to increase pro bono service pledges by our Run participants. To that end, we will be offering a reduced registration fee of $25 for every runner who pledges at least 25 hours of pro bono service.

REGISTRATION: Online registration will continue until Tuesday, February 25th or until the run reaches its limit of 350 runners. In person registration will be available Friday, February 28th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday, February 29th from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. if the race is not already at capacity.

CHALLENGE CUP: Bring the 5K Pro Bono River Run Challenge Cup home to your firm or company this year! The Challenge Cup is a new tradition we began last year and is given to the team of runners that collectively pledges or receives the most pro bono hour pledges for their team.

JUDICIAL FOOD FESTIVAL INFO: Immediately after the race, the HCBA will be hosting the 17th Annual Judicial Food Festival on the grounds of the Stetson Tampa Law campus. All Run participants are invited to attend for free. This is a separate event, however, and requires separate registration.
