Hawaii Scouts BSA Merit Badge Day Attendees:

 

Troop 32, in conjunction with Aloha Council, is following the CDC and the Hawaii Department of Health, in accordance with their guidance for gatherings of 50 or more people, has decided to POSTPONE the Hawaii Scouts BSA Merit Badge Day that was scheduled for March 28th. The new date is TBD, an update will follow with more details.

 

Registered attendees may apply their registration towards the rescheduled event once it is confirmed or may request a full refund.

About this Event:

Join your fellow Scouts. Have fun, meet new friends, enjoy a rewarding Scouting experience while earning Merit Badges in a safe, supporting and challenging environment. Join us at the Hawaii Scouts BSA Merit Badge Day.

 

This event is being hosted by Troop 32, Waipio, Hawaii offering a maximum of (2) Scouts BSA Merit Badge classes for Scouts 10-17 years of age. This event is open to any Scout from any Troop, Crew or Unit.

 

Regular Price Registration Deadline: March 21, 2020. Register early to avoid a late registration fee and give your Scout enough time to complete the pre-requisites.

 

When registering select "QTY 1" for EACH Scout. You will then select your 2 Merit Badges choices later in the registration process. So for example, if you are registering 1 Scout select "QTY 1" if you are registering 2 Scouts select "QTY 2", etc.

 

 

By conducting this Merit Badge Day, Troop 32 strives to create a quality Merit Badge program that includes skilled trades, life skills, general enrichment, and Eagle-required Merit Badges. In small-classroom settings, Scouts will learn from carefully recruited professional counselors. There will be no on-site registration or walk-ins.   • Art: Pre-Requisites #6
  • Automotive Maintenance: #11 & 12
  • Backpacking: Pre-Requisites #6b, 8c, 9abe, 10, & 11
  • Citizenship in the Nation*: Pre-Requisites #2, 3, 7 & 8  * Eagle Required
  • Entrepreneurship: Pre-Requisites #2, 3, 5, & 6
  • Golf: Pre-Requisite #8
  • Painting: No Pre-Requisites
  • Plumbing: No Pre-Requisites (Bring: 6" Ruler or straight edge, red, blue and black pens or pencils and paper) NOTE: PLUMBING IS AN ALL DAY Merit Badge SELECT: Merit Badge Admission (1 Merit Badge ONLY). You Must select PLUMBING for BOTH AM and PM Merit Badge Sessions when registering.
  • Programming: Pre-Requisites #1a
  • Public Health: Pre-Requisites #5 & 7
  • Robotics: Pre-Requisites #6b 

 

 

Scouts have the option of earning up to 2 Merit Badge classes, however, some Merit Badges may require more than one session. The intent is to be able to sign off Blue Cards for all scouts who come prepared with all pre-requisites and complete the in-class requirements. The cost is $60 VIP Admission (up to 2 Merit Badges, premium lunch, t-shirt, and patch), $40 General Admission (up to 2 Merit Badges and lunch), or $25 One Merit Badge Admission (limit of 1 Merit Badge either in the morning or afternoon sessions and no lunch provided) per Scout. **FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE**

 

When registering individual Scouts through the on-line registration system, please provide an email address for each Scout. This will allow Merit Badge Counselors the ability to pass information pertaining to their classes prior to the Merit Badge Day. In the spirit of BSA Youth Protection guidelines, please provide an email address and phone number for the Scout’s parents rather than the individual Scout. The phone number provided should also be suitable for emergency contact.

 

There are also Adult Leader workshops available. Adults are welcome to stay and attend these workshops throughout the day. Please note that these workshops are subject to availability and the time and availability are subject to change. You may sign-up for the Adult Leader workshops at the event. Workshops include:

RIGHT TO LIMIT/CANCEL: Troop 32 will reserve the right to limit or cancel any class. Merit Badges to be offered are subject to change based on Merit Badge Counselor availability and class minimums.

 

FIRST COME FIRST SERVED: Scouts are admitted to classes on a first-come, first-served basis via the online registration system. There is no waiting list for any of the merit badges classes. Should you encounter booked classes, please monitor this website in case seats become available.

 

EXPECTATIONS: Scouts are strongly encouraged to buy or borrow and read the Merit Badge Booklet and complete all pre-requisites before attending the Merit Badge Day. Scouts should be prepared to discuss, report, demonstrate and be tested on all requirements.

 

UNIFORM: BSA Official Class A Uniform

 

FOOD: The price of the event includes lunch (EXCEPT the $25 Single Merit Badge Registration). Food and beverages other than water are NOT allowed in the classrooms, but there will be a Snack Shack set up, and there will be staggered formal breaks. Please bring extra money to purchase refreshments at the event.

 

PARKING: There is plenty of free parking on site.

THINGS TO DO IN ADVANCE: Get approval from your Unit leader and complete a signed Blue Card. Buy or borrow the appropriate merit badge book(s). Study all information for each merit badge & complete the pre-requisites shown above.

 

THINGS TO BRING: (a) Proof of completion for all prerequisites (e.g. the filled-out worksheets, pictures, etc.), signed by Unit leader or guardian; (b) Unit leader signed “Blue Card” for each merit badge you are registered for (c) The merit badge book (read in advance) for each badge you will attend; (d) Pen or pencil, (e) water bottle, and (f) Dressed in Class A uniform, with Class B uniform underneath.

All Scouts BSA requirements will be followed. Each scout will be tested individually, and the Merit Badge Counselor has the right and authority to approve or disapprove prior work done. Our experience indicates some scouts will earn partials, but they can continue to work with the Counselor after the Merit Badge Day. Each scout will be given the name and contact details of the Merit Badge Counselor to complete partials.

 

Parents and Unit leaders are welcome, but not required.

 

FAQsQ. Do I need to pre-register for the Troop 32 Merit Badge Day?A. Yes!! You may register at www.hawaiimeritbadgeday.com, merit badge classes are first-come, first-served and will fill up prior to the event. Be sure to review all prerequisites and double-check that your Scout needs/want the merit badges you sign him/her up for. There are NO refunds for cancellations after you’ve registered.

 

Q. How many merit badge classes can I take?A. All of our merit badge classes are half-day (3.5-hour classes) with the exception of Plumbing which is a full-day class. You may select one all day merit badge session OR a maximum of two 1/2 day merit badge sessions.

 

Q. What is included with my registration fee?A. The $40 registration fee includes up to two merit badge classes and an optional lunch. The $60 VIP registration fee includes up to two merit badge classes, optional premium lunch, T-Shirt, and Commemorative Patch.

 

Q. Can I only come for half the day and take just one merit badge class?A. Yes. When registering, you would select the $25 "ONE (1) Merit Badge Session" and select the AM or PM Merit Badge session you would like to take and select “none” for the AM or PM merit badge session you do not want to take. If you registered for ONE (1) Merit Badge session. Arrive at 7:00 AM if you selected a MORNING Merit Badge session. Arrive at 12:00 noon if you selected an AFTERNOON session.

 

Q. Can I cancel my registration and get a refund?A. All Merit Badge Day registrations are final. There are NO refunds for cancellations.

 

Q. Can I cancel my registration and get a credit toward a future Merit Badge Day event?A. No, all Merit Badge Day registrations are final. There will be NO credits for future events.

 

Q. Can I change my class selections after I’ve registered?A. Based on availability and circumstance you may be able to change your class selection. Send an email to the registrar at info@hawaiimeritbadgeday.com or call 808-222-2205

 

Q. What are the lunch options?A. When registering, you will be able to select your lunch from the following options: Bento or None.

 

Q. Will other food or snacks be available?A. Yes! In addition to the lunch provided with your ticket, the snack shack will offer additional food, snacks, and drinks. Be sure to bring cash if you would like to purchase something from the snack shack. The snack shack opens at 7:00 AM. The snack shack is CASH only.

 

Q. How early should I arrive to Check-in?A. Check-in begins at 7:00 am for the all-day and morning sessions. The flag ceremony begins at 8:15 am. You’ll want to give yourself plenty of time to park and turn in all necessary paperwork. If checking in for just the afternoon session, you’ll want to arrive by 12:00 pm.

 

Q. What should I bring?

  • Blue Card(s) for each merit badge (Scout needs to fill out and get signed by their Unit Leader)
  • Any completed pre-requisite work
  • Class A Uniform w/ Class B Uniform underneath
  • Cash if you would like to purchase something from the snack shack

 

Q. What is the dress code for Merit Badge Day?A. Scouts should be dressed in their Field (Class A) uniform and closed-toe shoes. Wear your Class B uniform under your Class A. Some Merit Badges allow for Scouts to wear their Class B during the class (i.e., Plumbing and Automotive Maintenance). Please wear Class A Uniforms to check-in and for the opening flag ceremony)

 

Q. What if I can’t get my pre-requisites done before Merit Badge Day? Will I still be able to get my blue card signed off and earn the merit badge?A. Scouts need to complete all of the pre-requisites required for their merit badge(s) and be able to show proof of completion to get their blue card signed off by the merit badge counselor. It’s still okay to come to take the class if some pre-requisites are not met. In this case, the Scout would get a partial sign off on the blue card. Once all of the requirements are met, they can get a full sign off at a later date. Our merit badge counselors will share their contact information during class so they can be contacted by Scouts later if needed.

Release Information:In submitting this online registration, I hereby certify that I am the parent or legal guardian of the Scout being registered, the “Participant”. Should any injury or medical emergency involving the Participant arise during his participation in the Troop 32 Merit Badge Day, I hereby authorize Troop 32 and its leaders to procure, and I hereby consent to the provision of, the services of physicians, nurses, emergency medical technicians, or associated personnel to provide the Participant with medical assistance and/or treatment, and agree to be financially responsible for the cost of such assistance and/or treatment. I understand such treatment will be based on information provided herein. I hereby authorize emergency transportation of the Participant to a medical treatment facility should an individual listed above consider it to be warranted. I hereby release, discharge, and otherwise indemnify Troop 32 its members and leaders and associated personnel of these organizations, against any claim by or on behalf of the Participant named above as a result of his participation in the Troop 32 Merit Badge Day. By submitting this online registration, I certify that I have read and discussed with my Scout the pertinent information required for this event and that the Scout is prepared for this outing.
