Event description
Hawaii Regional Grief Conference 2020 - "Grief is the expression of Love for the one you lost ~ Let's Heal Together"

About this Event

The Honolulu Chapter of The Compassionate Friends (TCF) is proud to host Hope, Healing and Aloha: Hawaii Regional Grief Conference 2020. With a lineup of prominent speakers on the subject of grief and healing, this conference presents an opportunity for our Hawaii community to experience a TCF conference in our own backyard. We also welcome with open arms those who reside outside of our great state and encourage you to join us for this important conference while spending time in Hawaii. No matter where we come from, we all share a desire to better understand and cope with the loss of our loved ones and the grief that subsequently entered our lives.

Beyond the wonderful speakers and workshops, we trust you will benefit from the opportunity to meet and connect with others who are experiencing the same indescribable pain. There is a great measure of comfort that we find in sharing our common experiences of loss. The conference will feature workshops on all aspects of grief, including on child loss and sibling loss. All the speakers have presented at TCF National Conferences and have made a big impact on those seeking hope.

Our conference also presents a unique opportunity for the professional community in Hawaii and beyond. Physicians, therapists, counselors and any professional helping patients suffering through grief can gain invaluable insights from these prominent national speakers.

Please take a moment to read through the Speaker Bios here for additional information about their backgrounds and presentation topics. There is something of interest for everyone, no matter where you are on your grief journey.

Hope, Healing and Aloha: Hawaii Regional Grief Conference 2020 will be held on March 27, 2020 (Friday) and March 28, 2020 (Saturday). The conference will be held at the Ala Moana Hotel in Honolulu. The Ala Moana Hotel is next to Ala Moana Shopping Center and is a few blocks from the edge of Waikiki (See Map). The hotel rates for standard rooms are: $177.00 for single/double occupancy; $227.00 for triple occupancy (plus porterage, excise tax, and accommodations tax). These are excellent rates for this location in Honolulu. Ala Moana Hotel has created a dedicated website where hotel reservations for this event can be made. (This is separate from conference registration.) The secure website is https://book.passkey.com/e/49782047. Upon registering you will be asked for specific information, but you will not be charged until you check out. We encourage you to reserve your hotel rooms as early as possible as we have a limited number of rooms available at these reduced rates and anticipate they will sell out early.

Our Closing Ceremony and lunch (available for purchase) will be on Saturday, March 28. Lunch is $50.00, but is not required in order to attend the Closing Ceremony. Wristbands will be used to identify those who purchased lunch. It will be a buffet lunch with two entrees, four types of salad, one starch, fresh vegetables, baked luncheon rolls and dessert.

Click here for the tentative program.

T-shirts for the conference can be purchased on-line or at the conference. On-line purchasing of the T-shirts is recommended as you will be able to select the desired T-shirt size at that time. There may be a limited supply and range of sizes on-hand when purchasing T-shirts at the conference. Women's T-shirts are V-neck. Men's T-shirts are Crew. T-shirts are $20.00.

Workshop sponsorships are also available to sponsor a particular workshop; $150.00 per workshop sponsorship. Included will be a photo of and a brief statement about your loved one, plus the title of the workshop sponsored. Limited availability, sold on First come basis. We will remove this option after we receive 15 sponsors. Send the photograph, name of the loved one, workshop title and a brief statement about your loved one to David's email: kaniaupiotcf@gmail.com

Continuing Education Units (CEU) are available for social workers. (This activity is pending approval from the National Association of Social Workers). There will be a $20.00 charge.
