Challenge to youth: What does Hawaii’s legislature need to do to make Hawaii a better place to live, learn, and work?
About this event
Young people up to age 24 are invited to share their ideas and advise Hawaii’s State Legislators at the Hawaii Virtual Children and Youth Summit on October 14 and 15, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. – noon, each day.
You will join other youth and state legislators in a town hall style meeting where you can talk about important issues that impact your communities. You can join breakout groups led by youth on 5 topics to share the issues YOU think are important. YOU will decide on recommendations for legislative action Topics include:
• Protecting the Environment
• Healthy Mind, Healthy Body
• Diversity, Equity, and Safety
• Education
• Housing and Homelessness
Following the summit, you and your peers will vote online to rank the 10 Summit recommendations in priority order.
Last year, our legislators listened. Three of your recommendations were introduced as bills and resolutions and one of them passed – to expand Hawaiian culture and language classes in public schools.
Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic and necessary shutdowns and restrictions on gatherings, the 2021 Hawai'i Children and Youth Summit will be entirely virtual.
Participation is strictly limited to youth/young adults ages 24 and younger. General sessions will be livestreamed on Facebook for adults who want to listen in.
We need your voice to create Hawaii’s future.
There will be a Video Watch Party on Tuesday, October 12th at 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. This is where youth participants will join to watch all of the youth produced videos for a deeper understanding of the topics to be discussed at the Summit. Please join us for the Video Watch Party and win door prizes!
