About this event
We are excited to present a program of tunes and songs from across the Pacific! Laura and Sarah have put their heads together to share music from across Australia (with a dash of Texas!) with which they have personal connections. In addition to fiddle, piano and flute, Sarah will be bringing concertina, recorder and Scottish small pipes. This will be an eclectic, fun concert full of stories and musical sharing.
"What we hear proves that she has learned well, and when Laura Flanagan says that she “has a deep belief in the power of community in music, and a love of the fiddle playing of Irish masters like Bobby Casey, Paddy Canny, and Joe Ryan”, you know that having gone to the source, she has joined the masters."

Laura Flanagan
Laura Flanagan is an outstanding fiddler playing Irish traditional music from Lubbock, Texas. She has performed and taught at several music camps and festivals in the United States and Australia, where she recently returned from giving a number of performances which included the National Celtic Folk Festival. Laura is currently pursuing a PhD in Fine Arts at Texas Tech University. Her research interests include the history of music in Camperdown and Terang, Victoria, Australia. She is currently writing a book on the history of Texas Tech University’s School of Music. She has a deep belief in the power of community in music, and a love of traditional Irish fiddle playing which she has immersed herself in over the past several decades. Through playing and teaching music, Laura hopes to share these two passions and facilitate the opportunity for others to find themselves through music.
