Hastings CLQ and HRPLJ invite you to attend our 2016 Symposium, "Justice for the Mentally Ill: The ABA's Criminal Justice Mental Health Standards," on Thursday March 17, from 1pm-5:30pm at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in the Louis B. Mayer Lounge, 198 McAllister St.
Today, professional standards seem commonplace in every field of criminal justice administration. Yet only thirty years ago such standards were rare. The American Bar Association (ABA) first created and implemented criminal standards and remains the preeminent national body in the field. These ABA Standards for Criminal Justice include mental health issues in criminal justice.
The Criminal Justice Mental Health Standards provide guidance in a long-neglected area of criminal justice administration, and are not perfect. Please join us for a forum in which we will discuss the intersection of mental health and the U.S. criminal justice system to aid the ABA’s task force charged with revising the Criminal Justice Mental Health Standards.
Reception with food and beverage to follow at 5:30pm in the lobby of the LBM.
