Harvard Kennedy School - Alumni Reception in Nairobi!

You're invited to join fellow Harvard Kennedy School Alumni for a networking event at the Graduate School of Media and Communication, Aga Khan University on Thursday, March 15, from 7:00-8:30 pm.

HKS Faculty Hugh O’Doherty and members of the HKS-Executive Education Team will be in Nairobi in early March to launch a new Adaptive Leadership Executive program to be held at the Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications (AKU-GSMC) in March and June 2018.

We are taking advantage of this occasion to reconnect with the HKS Alumni community in Nairobi and to share some exciting updates about recent programs we launched in the African continent this year!

Reunite with your peers, meet new contacts, and connect with HKS Faculty and staff. We encourage you to bring friends and colleagues who may be interested in learning more about HKS Executive Education. Hors d'oeuvres will be served and non-alcoholic drinks will be available.

Special guests:

Hugh O’Doherty - Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. He has taught leadership and conflict resolution at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies and the University of Maryland, where he directed the Ireland-US Public Leadership Program for “emerging” leaders from all the political parties in Ireland. In Northern Ireland, O’Doherty directed the Inter-Group Relations Project, an initiative bringing together political and community leaders in Ireland to establish protocols for political dialogue. He has consulted extensively with a variety of clients including the Irish Civil Service, the American Leadership Forum, the Episcopalian Clergy Leadership Program, and the Mohawk Community Leadership Program in Canada. O’Doherty has also consulted in Bosnia, Croatia, and Cyprus, and has addressed the UN Global Forum on Re-Inventing Government. Hugh earned an M.Ed and Ed.D from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Michael Koehler - CEO of KONU, an international boutique firm focusing on leadership development and has worked with clients such as the World Bank, NATO, Volkswagen, Abbott, and Johnson & Johnson. His leadership development work draws on his experience as an entrepreneur, professional dancer, and educator. Michael teaches leadership at NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. He holds a Master in Public Administration (MPA) from Harvard Kennedy School and a Master in Education from Marburg University, Germany. He founded and developed several bilingual K-12 charter schools for one of Germany’s most innovative education start-ups and is a Co-Founder and Board Member of the Adaptive Leadership Network. He was the 2001 Silver Medalist at the European Championship in Rock ’n’ Roll Acrobatic Dance – and worked as a dance coach and choreographer for more than 15 years, with both beginners and champions

Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education (HKS-EE) convenes thinkers and doers from around the globe who are committed to advancing the public interest. Our executive programs—most one week or less—are developed with you in mind and offer the opportunity to step outside of your day-to-day routine to focus on global issues and sustainable solutions. Reach beyond your current knowledge and skills, expand your thinking, strengthen your ability to lead and reenergize your drive to make a difference.

---------

HKS-EE is launching a new adaptive leadership executive program to be held at the Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications (AKU-GSMC) in Nairobi in March and June 2018.

Adaptive Leadership for Africa: Chaos, Complexity and Courage is part of Transforming Leadership for 21st Century Africa, a suite that will offer local leaders in Africa an extraordinary opportunity to sharpen two of the most vital skills demanded by these challenging times of accelerating change and unprecedented complexity: agile leadership and intelligent communication.

The suite includes two components:

  • Adaptive Leadership for Africa: Chaos, Complexity and Courage, delivered by the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education, helps executives exercise leadership amid uncertainty with skill, purpose and effectiveness.
  • The Voice of Leadership: Inspiration, Influence and Impact, delivered by the AKU-GSMC, empowers leaders to speak and act with clarity, vision and authenticity.

The 4-month suite will engage participants through on-campus sessions in Nairobi (March 11-16 and June 11-13, 2018) as well as online modules and virtual group check-ins during the interim period.

Upon completion, participants will receive two certificates, from HKS-EE and from AKU-GSMC.
