Harlem Redlining Bike Tour: Understanding Where/Why the Bike Lanes End

About this Event
Join this approximately 2 hour bike tour by NYC's Bike Mayor, The Brown Bike Girl.
Bike tour shows cyclists how the nationally-instituted housing segregation policy of redlining started to racially define neighborhoods, steer advancement & quality of life resources to or from certain place (and races of people) using East & Central section of Harlem, "the Black Mecca," as backdrop.
This bike tour will help participants more understand themselves, their assumptions, where they ride, and why the bike lanes ever stop.
- Appx 2 hours.
- Skill level: Riders should be at ease and keep a consistent moderate pace in traffic (about 10 mph).
- No children under 14 years on unattached bikes for this ride.
- Ride begins and ends in East Harlem.

WEATHER & CANCELLATION POLICY
The organizer reserves the right to cancel or postpone the ride based upon perceived safety risks. Refunds will be given in the event of a final cancellation by organizer only. Postponements and cancellations will be declared by 8pm on the prior evening. Otherwise, participants can anticipate riding as long weather conditions are 40 degrees or higher at scheduled meeting time. ( TIP: Dress warm and bring layers)
COVID & OTHER SAFETY
All riders must wear a face covering during the entirity of the ride.
RECORDING OTHER TERMS
By participating in this tour, you agree to forego the use of GPS and route tracking apps, sound and video recording which are not permitted on The Brown Bike Girl's guided tours. If you are interested in mileage and speed stats, they can be provided to you for manual entry upon request.
