harlem is . . . Dance is a newly expanded, interdisciplinary exhibition illuminating the history and power of dance featuring the elegant work of documentary photographer Ruth Morgan. It honors three icons of Harlem dance – Ruth Williams, Marie Brooks and Dele Husbands -- and how each built community through dance. The exhibition includes an eclectic mix of visual interpretations inspired by dance themes by 14 emerging and established artists who live and/or work in Harlem.
Featuring the work of: Andrea Arroyo, Tania Balan-Gaubert, Sandra Bell, Ramona Candy, Elan Cadiz-Ferguson, Randy Dottin, Lance Johnson, Dindga Mccannon, Byron Mccray, Ruth Morgan, Tomo Mori, Ademola Olugebefola, John Reddick, Grace Williams
Co-Curated By Barbara Horowitz and Elan Cadiz-Ferguson
This exhibition is part of Community Works’ “harlem is. . . Downtown / Uptown series, a year-long effort highlighting contributions by Harlem to the cultural memory of the neighborhood and city.
The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Loretta Abbott, beloved dancer, actor, singer, and choreographer
