A Harlem food tour? When one hears the name Harlem, it immediately invokes in one's mind images of shows at the Apollo, great jazz and incredible authors and activists. These things are certainly true, but collectively, they are just one side of Harlem. Harlem is also home to many ethnic groups who all bring their own unique and tasty flavors to the table, from the Latin side of the Caribbean to Mexico, some Italian, and yes with additional tastes adding in by the Black American experience, and even Africans. This is the tour to see and taste these amazing foods at its most authentic literally right on the streets.
We begin our Harlem Food Tour by tasting sampling amazing from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic with tasty sweet plantains, empanadas, mofongo and various meats; Then cleanse your palette with homemade juices from Mexico while sampling more food at great outdoor stands with tantalizing tacos, grilled corn with all the fixings, and burritos. Just before we leave Spanish Harlem we will eat at one the most famed pizzeria's in all of New York City with a visible coal oven and learn of its historical connections to the city. We then move the Central Harlem to see a great outdoor African Market while sampling fried shrimp, fish sticks and then head to try collard greens, black eyed peas, cornbread and other down home cooking in Harlem. Your eyes will sparkle from the things that you have seen, hands may be loaded down with interesting trinkets and souvenirs, and best of all your appetite will be satisfied. Establishments we visit on the Harlem Food Tour:
- Cuchofritos Frituros
- Don Paco Panaderia
- Patsy's Pizza
