Happy 19th Birthday Lacpug

Join us as we celebrate our 19th Birthday.

Very excited to welcome the team behind the 2019 Academy Award winner for Best Documentary,(short Subject) "Period. End of Sentence." This Doc is one of the rare instances where a film indeed changes the world. Director Rayka Zehtabchi, Cinematographer/Editor Sam Davis and Executive Producer Douglas Blush are scheduled to join us to show and tell all about this remarkable story.

Also Philip Hodgetts returns to show us a brand new Builder from Lumberjack Systems.

Also editor Sven Pape aka This Guy Edits returns to talk about the Global Post Process he used with his director, Udo Flohr on the movie "Effigy – Poison and the City." (to be released in 2019). The movie was shot in Germany while Sven stayed in Los Angeles. Both of them will be at the table.

Also Stump The Gurus and World Famous Raffle.

And maybe Cookies and Cake!

Agenda (subject to change and availability)

6:45- 7:15PM - Stump the Gurus
Join Gurus Michael Kammes. Jason Bowdach, Adam Bedford and Bill Davis as they will attempt to answer all of your questions and solve all of your problems concerning Resolve and FCPX, Avid, Premiere Pro and anything else you can think of. If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.

7:25PM - 7:50PM - Lumberjack Builder 2.0 - Philip Hodgetts
Philip Hodgetts will demonstrate Lumberjack Builder, a unique text driven NLE for Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro X. Builder picks up where transcription services finish. He will show how Builder works with text ranges from transcripts to create a story that you read as text or play as video! There are comprehensive (but optional) logging tools for adding Keywords to Text Ranges.

In Builder you order transcripts in the app, or bring your own transcripts, and use the transcripts to drive the video and audio edit. Builder has fully featured Logging tools, including the world’s only Keyword Manager, and text correction tools in the Logging Window.
In the Story Building view, Builder has comprehensive filtering so you can find the perfect sound bite quickly and easily. Selects go into a Storyline script. You can read the script, edit the text and play the video as the story develops. Export preliminary sequences for finishing in Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro X.

Builder is part of Lumberjack System and is included in the $9.99 a month subscription along with the web app, iOS logging app, noteLogger, backLogger and Lumberyard apps.
Builder 2.0 supports both Final Cut Pro X and Premiere Pro CC.

The director and I met face to face for only a few days, when he flew over to lock picture with me.

9:00PM -9:50PM - The Making of "Period. End of Sentence" - Rayka Zehtabchi, Sam Davis, Doug Blush
All of us wish to make a positive difference in the world and these people did just that. In rural India, where the stigma of menstruation persists, women make low-cost sanitary pads on a new machine and stride toward financial independence. The story of the making of this Documentary might be as remakable as the film. This film is from director Rayka Zehtabchi and producer Melissa Berton and won the 2019 Oscar for Best Documentary Short Subject. Watch it on Netflix

About Rayka Zehtabchi,
Rayka Zehtabchi is an Oscar winning Iranian-American director based in Los Angeles. Her directorial debut, Madaran, is an Iranian language short that won Jury awards at top film festivals and qualified for the 89th Academy Awards in 2016.
Rayka’s Oscar winning short documentary, Period. End of Sentence. can be seen on Netflix worldwide, and is about a group of village women in Northern India who start a sanitary pad-making business in an effort to improve feminine hygiene and de-stigmatize menstruation. Along with the film’s release, Rayka helped co-found the non-profit “The Pad Project” to fight the stigma of menstruation and improve feminine hygiene worldwide.
Future projects include a short documentary on the Special Olympics, a narrative feature film based on her family’s experience immigrating from Iran to the United States in the 1990s, as well as a feature documentary further expanding on the topic of menstruation worldwide.
Rayka’s passion is telling human stories that bring awareness and action to little-known social causes. In both documentary and narrative, she brings a naturalistic approach to her storytelling, striving for honesty and intimacy on screen.

About Sam Davis
Sam Davis moved from small-town Michigan to Los Angeles and attended USC's School of Cinematic Arts. Sam has a background in cinematography, shooting commercials, music videos, documentaries, and feature films. On projects such as Madaran andPeriod. End of Sentence., Sam's contributions have gone beyond cinematography. He produced, shot, edited and sound-designed these films.
Sam's holistic approach to filmmaking has made him a versatile and mature storyteller. He is currently directing two short films––Shnoof, a mockumentary portrait of two empty nesters who've created and mastered their own language, and Days Gone By, a documentary time capsule celebrating the amateur short films his dad made while growing up in Michigan in the '60s.
