Event description

Description

Happiness and wellbeing are increasingly on the national and international agenda. The University has a wealth of research expertise covering all aspects of the topic. As a major employer it also has responsibilities to staff and students with regard to the working environment they experience. The aims of this workshop are to:

  1. 1. Explore the range of (UoB) research that can inform “happiness” initiatives in the workplace
  2. 2. Facilitate a cross-campus network of interdisciplinary research

A series of informal interviews with academic colleagues identified three main areas for consideration at the workshop:

  • o Exercise & Health
  • o Goals
  • o Social Integration & Autonomy

A series of speakers drawn from these initial interviewees have been invited to speak about their research and how it impacts within these three areas. In their presentations they will consider the evidence base for their view of happiness, the interventions they would propose to improve happiness amongst the University community, and how they would measure success

In accompanying break out groups the speakers will engage with the audience and a range of stakeholders to discuss the practical application of the ideas identified. Stakeholders include academic and professional services staff and students, and those with specific responsibilities in this area. Rapporteurs will capture the discussions and their commentaries synthesised to inform the developing UoB Wellbeing strategy. Outputs will be facilitated via social media throughout.
