HAPPENING Multicultural Festival -- May 29-June 1 2019 —— at 918 Bathurst Centre for Culture Arts Media & Education.

HAPPENING Multicultural Festival is a four-day multidisciplinary festival that will engage more than 60 artists/performers who have self-identified as people of diverse communities, immigrants, newcomers and refugees. The festival features traditional and contemporary music, dance, visual arts, story-telling, poetry, crafts and food. HAPPENING will take place at 918 Bathurst Centre for Culture Arts Media & Education in Toronto.

Artists & Events at HAPPENING Multicultural Festival

Group Art Exhibit : Visual artists of diverse backgrounds present their work on the theme of Community and Identiy. Artists fuathured in this group exhibit are from Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Guatemala, India, Iran , Jordan, Korea, Mexico, Peru, Rumania , Syria, Venezuela and Zimbabwe.

Community Artss Exhibit Five Commuity Engaged Organizations ( Artignate , Pinceles Latinos, Deparment of Imagineray Affairs , ImageArte and Muse Arts ) showcase their most recent Commutiy Engaged Arts projects at HAPPENING Festival.

During HAPPENING Multicultural Festival we are also creating opportunities for professional development for artists interested in working with communities.

Anti- Oppression & Cultural Competence in Facilitation Training $30

9:am to 12:00 pm

A 3-hour professional development opportunity ideal for artists, arts facilitators, arts, culture and community workers looking to continue a more inclusive practice. As arts educators, facilitators, and those working in and with communities, we all have a responsibility to treat others with dignity, respect and equality. We carry the responsibility to challenge discriminative actions, behaviours, language, policies and procedures. In order to do that , we require to undertand not only the concept but also to adopt a practice that works towards equity and justice.

During HAPPENING Multicultural Festival we are creating opportunities for organizations to network with artists and other organizations.

Community & Arts Engaged Organization Fair 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm FREE

Arts and non-Arts organizations working with immigrant, refugee and newcomer communities are part of this event. Exhibitors showcase organization’s services, interact and network with other organizations leaders and with immigrants, newcomer and refugee artists and their communities. Some of our exhibitors: ArtStarts , Airsa, Royal Ontario Museum, TIFF , Skills for Change, Muse Arts, CPAMO, OAC.. Neighbourhood Arts Network, Department of Imaginary Affairs, CultureLink, Teach2Learn and many more.

Join Bomgiizhik (Revolving Sky) from Serpent River First Nation. He is fish clan and live in a small Ansihinabek Village called Nimkii Aazhibikoong.

This is what he has shared with us " There is a prohecy of when the condor meets the eagle. They say this has happend already and are in a time of great change. They say Indigenous people will rise up and help protect the planet in a time of great sorrow. I believe this is our calling"
