Project-Based Learning: The Nuts & Bolts
Get your learning on through projects a la RAFT! Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching method in which a student gains knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to a complex question, problem, or challenge. Students in a PBL environment are allowed to make choices regarding the products created, how they work, and how they use their time with teacher guidance. They must also engage in problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and other important competencies. The instructor will model and explain methods for facilitating an effective PBL environment and provide activity ideas to be used as the basis for PBL projects.
All Around STEM
In All Around STEM, educators will learn how to use hands on activities to enhance learning in science, technology, engineering, and math. We will also use effective tools and strategies to incorporate creative thinking, classification, fine and gross motor skills, and open ended projects to teach STEM in a fun and exciting way.
