A yearly gathering process to find solutions for creating a sustainable community. Friday is a day of working groups on air sustainability.

About this Event

The fourth annual Hands On Sustainability conference will be held on October 15-16, 2020, hosted by Big Love Akron and supported by the City, County, and Summit Health. This year’s theme is Air! The event is modeled after Sustainable Cleveland and follows the appreciative inquiry process, which looks at existing successes and resources to discover, dream, design, and envision the destiny of solutions to case studies or whole system issues by drawing on the fresh perspectives of diverse conference attendees as well as content experts assigned to each table.

The conference is open to the public. Attendees includes a mix of government representatives, design professionals, content matter experts, engaged citizens, environmentalists and activists, the University of Akron, and Akron Public Schools.

Our free Thursday night program will include Miles Keogh, the executive director for the National Association of State Air Agencies, as our keynote speaker as well as a fishbowl discussion on the future of the Akron Regional Air Quality Management District (ARAQMD) given that Summit County is in attainment for most air quality metrics.

Friday’s paid program will feature AI tables on Health Equity (including childhood asthma), Transportation, Policy, a Carbon Neutral Neighborhood, Education, Climate Action, and ARAQMD. Friday will also include workshops on home air quality and gardening in areas with historic pollution. Scholarships are available; no one will be denied access to the conference.
