Description

This workshop covers setting up AWS EC2 account for machine learning/deep learning applications and use state-of- the-art machine learning and deep learning methods for object detection and image classification. This workshop introduces you to the main concepts in machine learning and you will learn how you can solve object detection and image classification problems using machine learning. In this workshop, you will also learn the fundamentals of deep learning and how to train and evaluate a deep fully connected model.

Tools/Languages/Environment:
o AWS EC2 with Linux OS
o Python (scikit-learn, pandas, numpy)
o Tensorflow with Keras
Curriculums details:
o Setup AWS EC2 Machine – 30 minutes
o Review of machine learning methods (Logistic Regression, SVMs, Random Forests) – 30
minutes
o Application of machine learning methods for Handwritten Digit Classification (MNIST
Database) – 30 minutes
o Build and evaluate machine learning models with scikit-learn
o Review how neural networks work and backpropagation – 30 minutes
o Single Perceptron and Multi-Layer Perceptron Method for Handwritten Digit
Classification – 30 minutes
o Deep Learning Architectures (Convolutional Neural Network) – 30 minutes
o Build, train and evaluate a deep fully connected model for handwritten Digit
Classification – 30 minutes
o Fine-tune famous publically available deep learning models for handwritten Digit
Classification (Inception, Resnet, etc.) – 30 minutes

Prerequisite:
Previous experience programming in python is advised to make best use of the workshop

This class will be taught by Qazaleh Mirsharif and Humayun Irshad of CrowdFlower.

About the Instructors

Qazaleh Mirsharif is a Machine Learning Scientists specializing in Computer Vision. She has received a PhD in computer science from University of Houston, Texas focusing on applications of computer vision in developmental studies of children. She received her MSc in Artificial intelligence and has worked on areas as diverse as medical image processing, object segmentation and motion analysis in videos and parking sign detection in street view images.

Humayun Irshad is a computer scientist with expertise’s in machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, medical image analysis and statistical methods. He is developing computational techniques to combine computer vision, machine learning and statistical approaches for automated object detection, segmentation and classification in 2D and 3D images and application ranging from medical, retail, self-driving car, etc. He has completed a 3 years PostDoc at Harvard Medical School and also received a PhD in Computer Science from University of Grenoble France, where he developed machine learning and deep learning techniques include region of interest detection and classification, and nuclei and gland detection, segmentation and classification in 2D and 3D histopathological images (H&E stained, IHC stained and fluorescence images).
