Description

Join the Norman B. Leventhal Map Center at the Boston Public Library and Population Education for an interactive, 2.5-hour professional development workshop for secondary social studies (6th-12th) educators. Explore interdisciplinary teaching strategies that encourage active learning and prepare students to think analytically and creatively about global challenges to the planet.

Participate in hands-on lessons and demonstrations that teach concepts related to world geography and human resource use, all while promoting global citizenship. Presented activities use role-playing, representational models, group problem-solving, and simulation games to explore the social and environmental impacts of human population growth.

All participants will receive:

• 2.5 hours of professional development training and a certificate of completion

• A curriculum CD with over 60 additional lesson plans aligned to the Massachusetts Social Studies Curriculum Framework and the C3 Framework

• Other subject-appropriate teaching resources and access to Population Education curriculum items
