Hands Across the Border Celebration June 11th, 2017

Sunday June 11th, 2017, 8:30am – 2:30pm, for the

"Hands Across the Border - Peace Arch Celebration" 

at Peace Arch State and Provincial Parks Located on

the U.S. - Canada border between

Blaine, Washington, and Douglas, British Columbia!


You and your family can participate in this international celebration of peace that has been enjoyed by youth from around the world since it was originally established in 1937. 

 We look forward to welcoming Canadian and American Scouts, Boy Scouts, Trail Life USA, Girl Scouts, Campfire, American Heritage Girls, Girl Guides, leaders, traders, volunteers, HATB alumni, and their families. as you come together to celebrate this incredible youth program that has touched so many lives for generations.

This year we will celebrate the Ninety-six Anniversary of the dedication of the International Peace Memorial (Peace Arch). We will have a special display honoring the history of the Peace Arch. Also, there is a very special Peace Art Project in which everyone is invited to participate.

 We have added the ALL NEW Hands Across the Border Camp in Blaine Marine Park. We have limited space this year's in the camp.  We look forward to you joining as we continue to build a self-sustaining program that will serve the youth of today and future generations.

PLEASE NOTE: This event is open to all Scouts, Boy Scouts, Trail Life USA, Girl Scouts, Campfire, American Girls, Girl Guides, , leaders, traders, volunteers, HATB alumni, and
their families.



Registration fee: $15.00 per person (U.S. Funds).
$12.00 per person through February 28th, 2017.

Your registration fee includes an official Hands Across the Border (HATB) program, crest/patch, friendship pin, flags, bookmark, rubber wristband, window cling and other goodies. Online registration will close on June 9th, 2017, or when registration is full. 

Each registered participant (purchaser) will also receive (via email) an Area Explorer Passport with area merchant discounts and specials.  Your Area Explorer Passport will be available for download May 15th, 2017. The Hands Across the Border program is held rain or shine.  Siblings 5 and under are free (does not include goodie bag).

Space is limited to 2,500 registered participants, youth, leaders, alumni, family members & volunteers. 

We appreciate early registration!  Many units are registered for the celebration by their group leaders. 
You may register individually or as a unit.  If parents bring their child to HATB they must register as the unit/leader and are required to pay registration fees. All participants under 18 are required to attend with their units or the parents.

NEW Event T-shirt Preorder.

Many of you have suggested that you would like to preorder an event T-shirt in the specific size(s) you need. And we listened. Starting with the 2017 event you can order and purchase you event T-shirt in your desired size during the registration process and they will be waiting for you when you check in for the event. After you have purchased and paid for your on-line registration with Eventbrite, you will be able to make your T-shirt purchase. Please check the box notifying us you would like to preorder t-shirts.  We will update the eventbrite website with the 2017 t-shirt design by February 28th, 2017. 

The deadline for ordering and prepaying for t-shirts is May 30, 2017. No preorders will be accepted after that date.  Of course, a limited number of T-shirts will still be available during the event but we cannot guarantee the size and number you want will be available.So why not preorder to insure you get the size you need.

NEW Hands Across the Border Camp at Blaine Marine Park June 9th - 11th. 

Hands Across the Border Camp (HATB Camp) in Blaine Marine Park is open to up to 300 registered HATB participants. We have limited space this year. In order to qualify to reserve a campsite you/your unit must be registered for HATB. Campsites will be available on a first come first serve basis.

The IPAA Eventbrite service provides us with a list of registered participants in the order they are received.  If you wish to reserve a campsite you will fill out information and we will contact you with 48 hours to process reservation.

The camps sites are by donations, which will cover the costs of the IPAA providing services required by the City of Blaine to hold the camp. The suggested donation for a campsite is
$15 per night (max 10 per site). You must accept Camp Rules and sign a City of Blaine liability waiver on camp check in. The IPAA and the City of Blaine are not responsible for lost or stolen items at the campsite. All HATB campers/units must be accompanied by their group leaders or parent or guardians. You must be over 18 old to reserve a campsite. Donations for camping ar due April 15th, 2017. Visit the HATB Camp webpage for complete details and updates.

 ATTENTION: Due to financial commitments to our vendors and others, the IPAA needs 1,000 registered participants by 11:59pm April 1st, 2017, in order to proceed with the Hands Across the Border Program. If by that date we have not met our registration goal, we reserve the right to cancel the event and refund all moneys. If we proceed with the event NO REFUNDS will be issued for any reason after April 1st, 2017.

Is my registration transferable?   Unit registrations are NOT transferable.


Can I update my or my Units registration participant information?YES. You can update your participant information via email to IPAA at This includes updating the names of your troops attendee(s) through June 5th, 2017.


The name on my registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?NO. If you need to update your Troop/Group information you may do it prior to June 5th, 2017. Update your participant information by emailing the IPAA at


Do I have to bring my printed registration receipt to the event?
YES. We will have a system in place to scan participant's registration certificate(s)upon their arrival. Unit leaders need to bring their event ticket/signed participation waiver(s) to CHECK IN and pick up their HATB Goodie Bags & prepaid t-shirts.


Where are the park(s) located? The American and Canadian parks have parking areas and both parking areas are first come first serve Be sure to TURN OFF YOUR GPS once you are within 3 miles of the international parks (US/ Canada Border) and follow written instructions to the parking areas. If you do not your GPS may give you driving instructions to cross the border (Peace Arch) and you will miss the exits to the Canadian and American parks parking areas.


 American Side - Peace Arch State Park is located 22 miles north of Bellingham, WA off of I-5. Take exit 276, Blaine City Center. Drive north on Second Street to the park entrance and parking area. Parking is first come first serve. A Washington State Parks Discover Pass is required to park in the USA parking area.  You may purchase a day pass for $10 or purchase an annual pass for $30 which is valid at all Washington State Parks at  Bus groups should call by June 1st, 2017, to arrange parking.

Canadian Side - Peace Arch Provincial Park is located 30 miles south of Vancouver, BC, off of Highway 99. Turn right (west) at Highway 99 at Beach Road. The park entrance and parking area are behind Peace Arch Duty Free. Parking is first come first serve. Bus groups should call by June 1st, 2017, to arrange parking. Call 360-332-7165.


What is the HATB registration refund policy? Refunds will be given through April 1st, 2017.  EFFECTIVE APRIL 2nd, 2017, NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED FOR REGISTRATION FEES UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.

International Peace Arch Association (IPAA)

The International Peace Arch Association formerly known as the United States Canada Peace Anniversary Association (USCPAA) is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to the heritage and preservation of the International Peace Arch. The association was founded in 1995 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the dedication of the Peace Arch.

Since then the associations activities have included historic reenactments, commemorations, concerts, art festivals, educational programs, and other special events including the Peace Arch Park International Sculpture Exhibition, an annual feature in the park that is now in its 20th year. In 2014, the began working on reviving Hands Across the Border and the 2017 will their 3rd celebration under IPAA leadership.

In 2017, we will celebrate the 96th Anniversary of the Dedication of the International Peace Arch.
