Description

Never used a drill before? Or used a drill but would like to refresh your skills? Sign up for one of the Handheld Power Drills - Pneumatic (Air), Electric and Cordless Drill/Driver Inductions to gain access to the power drills available from the 3DHub. Find out about the various applications for these types of drilling equipment, learn how to drill, countersink and insert screws and discover how to identify the different types of drill bits and their uses. These tools are very handy for many aspects of studio production, prototyping and exhibition installation. This induction is open to all Art & Design students and staff.

Things to remember when you come to this power tool induction;

1. Arrive prepared and on time. The induction begins at the advertised time so get there early. If you arrive late you may have missed too much information and will not be able to participate in that session.

2. Wear suitable workshop clothing. You must wear shoes that enclose your entire feet. Leather boots with a flat sole or low heel are recommended. Jeans and t-shirts are ok but try not to wear loose or flowing clothing and jewellery. Tie back long hair. The 3DHub will provide you with safety glasses and hearing protection to wear during the induction. If you do not have suitable clothing you may not be able to participate in that session.

3. Have your dust mask ready. You must have a suitable dust mask to work in the workshop (minimum P1 disposable respiratory protection required in the wood workshop). These can be purchased from either the vending machine outside the Maker Space in the central courtyard, or the 3D Hub (FG04) in advance before the induction begins. To purchase your mask from the 3D Hub you need to pay using your student card at the recharge station on campus (Located on Level 1 corridor in D block at the Paddington campus). You can recharge your student card online at http://recharge.it.unsw.edu.au or at the recharge station. Keep your receipt and present it to staff at the 3D Hub when you collect your dust mask.

4. Read the Safe Work Procedure sheet and ‘Declare as read”. Make sure you have read the Safe Work Procedure sheet titled “Handheld Power Drills Induction - Air (pneumatic), Electric and Cordless Drill/Drivers and ‘Declare as read’ at the bottom of the document, before you arrive.
