Handel's Water Music at Redeemer
Water Music (complete work) by G. F. Handel
A rare treat is in store for our audience, as we present Redeemer’s 30-piece original-instrument orchestra in this authentic performance of the complete work. Handel's collection of three suites for small orchestra, first performed in 1717 for Great Britain's King George I on a barge in the River Thames, features vibrant, dance-like tunes, enlivened by the use of original instruments and playing styles. We'll be using our 136-year-old timpani for the first time this year! Conductor Mark Dupere is Director of Orchestras at Lawrence University Conservatory of Music (Wisconsin).
