Event description

Description

This large and complex work deals with the birth, life, death, resurrection, and legacy of Jesus Christ. Handel composed the Messiah very quickly, focusing not on the words of Jesus, but rather on the legacy he left on this earth. The first part is the birth of Jesus, the second is the death and resurrection, and the third section is his legacy.

Many people are familiar with the Halleluiah Chorus, typically sung at Easter because it conveys a musical interpretation of resurrection. For this performance, The MSVA will be joined by singers from area churches as well as a chamber orchestra and we will present all three parts, ending with the single greatest chorus in all of Baroque music, “Worthy is the Lamb - Amen.” We will take some cuts in the second and third parts, to shorten the over three-hour complete performance. However, we have crafted a telling rendition of Messiah that keeps the story and musical transitions in tack.
