Handcrafted Books, Zines, and Self-Publishing

This FREE workshop is for people interested in making small books either for their own enjoyment or to sell. It is designed for writers — and potential writers — of all types who want to do small runs of their material, whether cook books, poetry, how-to, comics, fiction, or any other genre.These workshops are intented to encourage people to be creative, have fun, and prepare to take part in the first ever Springfield Book Crafters Fair to be held on May 21, 2017 at Make-It Springfield from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Please register for the days and sections that you plan to attend. This session is a repeat of earlier workshops held in February and March.
Part One (2:00 - 3:30pm): Handcrafted Books. Learn how to make a simple "book" from a single sheet of paper, then move on tomake upcycled "scrap paper" books out of recycled materials, and finally blank journals. This is a hands-on paper & glue session.
Break (3:30 - 4:00 pm): Opportunity to help plan the Book Crafters Fair. You do not need to be attending the workshop to participate in this planning session, but please do register for it if you plan to attend.
Part Two (4:00 - 5:00pm): Zines, DIY Printing, and Self-Publishing. Explore some of the options available to you for creating your own self-printed books. Learn to prepare copy for self-publishing services such as IngramSpark and Amazon's CreateSpace.
